【NPTU Delegation Visits Japan and Signs MOU with Chiba University】
From March 22 to 26, 2026, a delegation from National Pingtung University (NPTU) visited Matsumoto and Chiba, Japan, completing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chiba University. The delegation also visited Shinshu University and held professional exchanges with renowned designer Naoki Terada, advancing student exchanges, faculty visits, and industry-academia cooperation.
Led by President Robert Y.S. Chen, the delegation included senior administrators such as Dean of the office of International Affairs Kelvin H.C. Chen, Dean of office of Student Affairs Jong-Chin Huang, and Curriculum Section Chief Chun-Ta Lin. The itinerary featured campus visits, affiliated school observations, high-level meetings, and the MOU signing ceremony at Chiba University. In Tokyo, the team engaged with Terada to explore interdisciplinary collaboration in design, aligned with Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council’s industry linkage program.
At Shinshu University, discussions focused on University Social Responsibility (USR), regional engagement, industry-academia cooperation, and cross-border teaching.
The delegation visited the Shinshu University Museum of Natural Sciences and library, and met with elementary school teachers to discuss the “Borderless Teacher Program,” aiming to strengthen international cooperation in basic education.
On March 24, the Tokyo meeting with Terada emphasized design industry integration, with plans for workshops, joint courses, and internships to enhance students’ practical skills and global perspectives.
On March 25, the MOU signing at Chiba University established a formal sister-school relationship. Both presidents highlighted future cooperation in student exchanges, faculty visits, joint research, and international programs, incorporating the “Borderless Teacher Program.” They also discussed multilateral platforms such as the DHP initiative (Hyogo, Daegu, Pingtung) to build regional academic networks.
NPTU stated that initial cooperation will begin with pilot programs in student exchanges, short-term study, and faculty visits, gradually expanding in scale. Regular visits and online meetings will sustain progress. This visit marks a significant step in NPTU’s internationalization, offering more opportunities for cross-border learning and collaboration. Details on exchange quotas and application procedures will be announced in due course.
